Remote Consultations and Virtual PT Visits

Grassroots PT has seen first hand the far reaching benefits of expanded care through virtual telehealth platforms. We continue to offer in person physical therapy as well as the following virtual options.

Remote Athlete Consultations are available for clients located outside of our licensed states.

Grassroots PT has built a far reaching network through the climbing and outdoor sports communities. Unfortunately, many people who live in more rural areas to pursue their passions have lower access to quality care.

We created SelfTreatment.com to help guide individuals on their healing journeys who live in states and countries where we are not licensed to treat. However, there is still a high demand for Grassroots’ expertise in 1-on-1 consultations to educate athletes in sport specific therapeutic movement, healthy body alignment, and general guidelines to assessing painful symptoms.

We tailor these 30 or 60 minute virtual sessions to your individual needs. Whether that is for injury prevention, training for climbing, or just an outside opinion on an existing treatment plan. Please note that these sessions will not include a physical therapy evaluation or diagnosis of a new injury.

Physical Therapy Virtual Visits are available for telehealth clients located in California, Utah, and Wyoming at the time of treatment.

There are a wide variety of scenarios in which receiving virtual care may benefit your situation more than traveling to visit us in person in our Salt Lake City or Jackson Hole clinic locations. Schedule constraints, childcare availability, and other mobility/transportation barriers are just a few examples.

Our therapists practice the McKenzie Method, which emphasizes patient empowerment and self-treatment. The McKenzie system (MDT) is designed to diagnose and treat mechanically generated pain with minimal hands-on therapist intervention so that clients can become autonomous in their self-care more quickly and effectively.

MDT is comprised of four primary steps:

  1. Assessment

  2. Classification

  3. Treatment

  4. Prevention.

Using MDT allows us to assess and treat your condition based on symptom response versus reliance on imaging, which is highly beneficial at a time when insurance plans often have higher deductibles.

I hurt my back while coughing during a recent illness... We had a virtual consultation and he was able to assess my range of motion and the possible injury. He gave me exercises to do and just a few days later I’m almost pain free which is amazing.

Physical Therapy at Home

All of the benefits of working with Grassroots PT translate just as well to your home experience. You’ll spend the entire visit, and every follow up, with the same therapist who gets to know you and helps you achieve your goals. Even in our clinic there is never an aide or group setting to dilute your treatment. Every interaction is personal and unique.

You won’t need any special software or equipment to work with us virtually. We use a HIPAA compliant platform that feels similar to a video call through Google. There are no downloads required, just a laptop and reliable internet connection. You can read more about how to prepare for a telehealth PT session here.

We can always get creative with what you have on hand, such as a towel or a pillow. Some specialty items, such as a TheraBand, can easily be shipped to your home.

Our goal is to empower you to move on your own and carry that skill set with you for the rest of your life.

Our process for virtual physical therapy treatment is the same as we would do in person in the clinic:

  1. Take a thorough history of your general health, lifestyle, and your injury to get an understanding of your condition.

  2. Do a comprehensive functional movement assessment and observe your response to repeated movements.

  3. Create an evidence based treatment plan that specifically addresses your pain and movement dysfunction.

  4. Provide education on how to self manage and progress on your own so that you can continue to self treat between sessions.

  5. Schedule follow up appointments with ongoing assessment and reassessment to progress through all stages of recovery.
